Welcome to Oceans and Above.
We offer a broad spectrum of images from the world's richest marine ecosystems to its diverse terrestrial counterpart. Images are available as prints for personal collections or for stock photography licensing. Photographers are also available for special assignments: portraits, weddings and events as well as underwater shoots.
The discovery of new images and the stories behind them continue to be our source of inspiration. What makes these adventures so special is that we are a team and often revisit the excitement of those moments.

Lee-Anne Stack
"What can be better than doing something you absolutely love to do? My camera allows me to capture my feelings and thoughts of the world around me and express them in physical form. The bonus is being able to share them with others."
From Oceans and Above Photography emerges one of the most exciting new photographers to come onto the scene in recent years. Lee-Anne Stack definitely has what it takes. She is not just a one-dimensional point-and-shoot figure. Her passion and dedication drive her to being the best she can be at every phase of the business of photography. A closer look at these components will help us understand just why this smiling, charismatic woman has gained such respect.
You are likely to find Lee-Anne up to her elbows in the latest photographic literature. Recent topics revolve around her present photographic system (including the Nikon D2X), Adobe.s Photoshop CS3, and the workflow tools (e.g., computers, film and flatbed scanners, monitors and printers) that she skillfully operates at Oceans and Above Photography where she is office manager and co-owner.
Looking at her accomplishments in other areas over the years, it is no surprise that Ms Stack is experiencing the success she deserves. Her teaching and administrative skills cover a span of fifteen years at the college level followed by six years operating her own yoga studio. It is not by chance that she found her way into these facets of business. There is no one more suited to working with people. Her effervescence and humour are contagious. She always makes people feel so comfortable when they are around her, something that serves her well when she is on a wedding assignment or capturing people in various other situations. I was not surprised when she was asked to join the Executive Committee of the Peterborough Photographic Society, a group of dedicated and very talented photographers.
This series of life-long experiences added to some very special natural qualities make Lee-Anne what she is today. The beautiful part of all this is that you will never find a more unassuming person. She does not hesitate to praise others and learn from them while remaining silent about her own achievements. It goes without saying that she had nothing to do with scripting this biography.
Norman De Leenheer
"I am indebted to the creatures of this remarkable biosphere, from the oceans and above, that have allowed me to record their images. By including some of the stories that are behind these photographs I hope to bring you one step closer to being there."
Co-winner of Nature's Best Photography competition and the WINDLAND SMITH RICE INTERNATIONAL AWARDS EXHIBITION 2009 for Best Camera Club
Not only is Norm a world-class underwater photographer but also as a N.A.U.I. certified scuba instructor since 1972 he is the perfect dive partner. Knowledgeable, encouraging and ever vigilant, he has made my underwater experiences extraordinary lifelong memories.
His patience is certainly appreciated when on a shoot but also when help is needed in understanding equipment and concepts (I speak from experience and indebtedness). He doesn.t stop until it is done right.
From his extensive traveling, Norm brings you magnificent images, both underwater and topside, from:
- Pacific Northwest -Vancouver Island and adjacent mainland of British Columbia, Canada
- Atlantic Ocean/Caribbean Sea -US and British Virgin Islands, Curacao, Bonaire, Roatan (Honduras)
- Western Pacific Ocean - Western Micronesia -Palau, Yap
- Australia: Southern Ocean - Esperance and Southern Ocean coast, Indian Ocean - Exmouth, Ningaloo Reef, Rottnest
- Coral Sea - Northern Queensland, Great Barrier Reef, Osprey Reef (atoll)
- Celebes Sea - Borneo - Eastern Malaysia - Sipadan, Mabul
Norm's philosophy speaks volumes about his personality. Respectful of people and nature he unobtrusively manages to get the shots that most people miss.
Thirty years of teaching and coaching in British Columbia along with a year in Australia and three years in the British Virgin Islands gives Norm an appreciation for people and their interests, making the stories that accompany his images enlightening and appealing. His photographic passion began to consume him in the Caribbean (BVI) where he spent every free moment underwater. One of the more creative and unique projects he designed following his return to British Columbia was to build a marine biology lab that was modeled after the education lab at the Vancouver Public Aquarium at Stanley Park. These kinds of experiences have been invaluable and largely responsible for giving him a better understanding of what he is encountering when he explores the mysteries of the biosphere.
Norm got his start by building a colour lab in his own home in Port McNeill on Northern Vancouver Island. It was here that his photographic business began, firstly by creating prints for a variety of markets in the province, and a few years later, expanding into the stock photography line when he was acquired by the Vancouver agency, Image Finders. When Tony Stone Images bought the company, Norm was one of a handful of the top wildlife photographers transferred to their specialty branch in Seattle, Washington.
In 2004 he and his partner started Oceans & Above Photography, and entered the world of fine art photography.
When not behind the lens Norm can be found as an ice hockey defenseman three or four times a week (and is still waiting for that phone call from the NHL).

Note: Image size may vary. The best presentation of an image does not always fit the predetermined aspect ratio of the paper. For that reason some images may have been cropped, and therefore may not correspond to one of the dimensions (height or width) stated in the pricing. Your image will be printed on the stated paper size to maximize the amount of paper space used and the remaining space, including a small border, will be left white.
All images are copyrighted and may not be distributed or copied by any photographic, electronic or mechanical means without our permission.
Utmost care has been taken with every image to ensure the highest quality of reproduction. The images shown on this website have been greatly reduced in size and resolution, and thus, do not represent the quality you can expect in a final print.
All devices in the colour management process (cameras, scanners, monitors and printers) have been carefully calibrated to ensure optimal image output. Since your monitor may not be calibrated to this extent, you may notice some variation between what you see on your monitor and the print you receive.
